Richardson elements and birationality questions

We describe a class of parabolic subgroups of algebraic groups with certain properties. We also give a normal form of Richardson elements for the classical groups. This turns out to be a useful tool in understanding birationality of the moment map from $T^*(G/P)$ to the dual of the Lie algebra of $G$ onto its image.
