Research group

At the Department of Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the University of Graz, I lead the research group Inverse Problems and Mathematical Imaging. The group is concerned with the development and analysis of mathematical methods for solving inverse problems, especially in mathematical image processing and medical imaging such as MRI and CT. It works on theory, algorithms and practical applications and cooperates internationally in interdisciplinary projects.

Research areas

  • Mathematical image processing: Variational methods, multi-order regularization, applications to medical imaging
  • Inverse problems: Sparsity and Radon-measure constraints, dynamic and optimal-transport-based approaches, computational solution
  • Data-driven methods: Operator and parameter learning, Plug-and-Play regularization, performance guarantees
  • First-order optimization algorithms: Preconditioning techniques, degenerate and accelerated methods, applications to variational imaging problems
