Seminar on Optimization and Control in Physiological Systems

Purpose

In this seminar we will examine mathematical techniques needed for modeling physiological systems as well as some important concepts and systems in human physiology. These issues will be considered both from the perspective of the physiologist and the mathematician. As an end result of this seminar it is hoped that both the physiologist's and the mathematician's perspective will complement each other and advance joint knowledge.

This seminar is a joint effort of researchers in the Physiology Institute at Med-Uni Graz and the Mathematical and Physiological Group of the Institute for Mathematics and Scientific Computing, Karl-Franzens University.

Organization

We will generally meet on Tuesdays from 16.00 to 17:30 in the Seminarraum 11.34 of the Institute of Mathematics, Heinrichstrasse 36, third floor.

Lectures will include course material and talks given by invited mathematicians, medical clinicians, and life scientists.

Students attending this seminar can receive 2 hourse credit upon completion of course work which may be a report on a reasearch paper related to the topics of the seminar, a project or test.

The wInter semester focuses more on mathematical issues while the summer semester focuses on modeling applications although both semesters mix these topics and include guest lecturers. Each semester has a different course number. Hence students can get credit for both semesters.
